Preveli is located about 35 km south of Rethymno and has been protected as a Natura 2000 area due to its unique natural landscape.
The famous palm beach of Preveli, also known as Preveli Lake, lies at the exit of the Megalos Potamos River, which flows through the impressive Kourtaliotiko Gorge before reaching the Libyan Sea.
Before arriving at the beach, we make a short stop to admire and photograph one of the most breathtaking views in southern Crete. Towering cliffs, a winding river with emerald water and a rare palm forest come together to create a truly unique and almost tropical landscape.
After a scenic descent of approximately 20–25 minutes, you reach the beach — a place unlike any other in Crete. Here, you can swim in the clear waters of the Libyan Sea, relax by the river, or walk through the exotic palm forest that makes this location so special.
Leaving Preveli, we continue to the historic Preveli Monastery, founded in the Middle Ages and known for its important role in Cretan history.
Our final stop is the charming old town of Rethymno, where you can enjoy a walk through its narrow streets or relax with a coffee before returning.
A unique combination of beach, river and exotic nature — one of the most unforgettable places in Crete.
